May 28th, 2010

The promising line up of the $150,000 Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) this Saturday looks set to provide a thrilling race on the Doomben Racecourse, as the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival continues.

With the prestigious Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 Raceday one of the highlights of the Queensland carnival, all eyes will be on the full field of the 2010 Grand Prix Stakes and it is due to jump as race five of the day at 2.40pm.

Currently the punters favourite to claim a share in the $150,000 prize purse is The Hombre at $5.

Starting from barrier ten, the Tony Noonan-trained gelding is coming into Saturday’s race having beaten some of his fellow starters recently in the Group 3 Rough Habit Pate (2200m).

Tee Emar finished second in the Rough habit, although crossed the line first and will be looking for revenge over The Hombre in the 2010 Grand Prix Stakes.

The Peter Moody trained colt bumped The Hombre at around the 250 metre mark, losing the winners spot, and could be a lucrative bet as he goes into Saturday’s race at $6.50 – equal in odds to Sir Time Keeper.

However closer to the pre-race favourite in the odds are Kutchinsky and Summer Dash, both at $5.50.

Starting from barrier four and 18 respectively, Summer Dash may have the advantage with the inside barrier draw.

Also taking place on Saturday at Doomben will be the Group 3 Premiers Cup (2200m) and five other great Doomben Races.
