Brambles Wins 2012 Grand Prix Stakes

May 26th, 2012

Peter Moody-trained gelding Brambles has produced a dominant display of horse racing to win the 2012 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) by three lengths at Doomben today.

The son of Savabeel set the early pace after getting away quickly from barrier seven and was happy to sit clear of the field.

He set a fast tempo with Brad Rawiller in the saddle and with seven hundred metres to go was five lengths in front of his closest competitor.

Many jockeys would have elected to pull back their ride but Rawiller had confidence in the horse to see out the distance and was rewarded as the talented three-year-old ran clear to win by three lengths.

“It wasn’t necessarily a straight out plan but I thought it was a good chance we could out run them with the barrier we had (7),” Rawiller said.

“Thankfully he stayed on strong which he did last start.”

Brambles is having a terrific Queensland Derby leadup and now has two consecutive wins after winning the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate earlier this month.

Fellow Moody-trained horse Vatuvei finished strongly to run second while New Zealand gelding Red Shift finished third.

Many of these horses are headed to the Queensland Derby, so remember how they performed today and back a winner with
