A talented list of 21 three-year-olds have been included in 2015 Grand Prix Stakes (2000m) nominations; highlighted by the pending appearance of some of the Brisbane Winter Carnival’s most exciting racing prospects at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday.
Bachman has been set for a tilt at the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2200m) on June 6th, and will likely receive his final tune up for the race this weekend after being included in 2015 Grand Prix Stakes nominations.
Posting two wins and three minors over his eleven career starts so far, Bachman stamped his claims as one to watch over an impressive two-year-old campaign highlighted by success in the Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m) on April 5th.
Placing fourth in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) and third in the Listed Dulcify Quality (1600m) most notably through spring, the All American colt ran on for a credible third in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) on May 9th and is sure to relish a step-up to 2000m for the Grand Prix Stakes.
Peter Moody is set to launch a two-pronged attack on the 2015 Grand Prix Stakes after including Inauguration and Upham in nominations.
Posting two wins and as many minors through his nine career starts so far, Inauguration boxed on for a credible fifth in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) at fortnight ago and appears primed for a return to the winner’s circle in the Grand Prix Stakes.
Having placed third in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on Day 1 of The Championships, the Authorized gelding is sure to relish the conditions at Doomben should the greater Brisbane area continued to experience notable rainfall this week.
Upham is yet to finish outside the first three over four starts this time in and is sure to lay a great account for himself in the 2015 Grand Prix Stakes.
Running third in a Warwick Farm minor over 1400m first-up before taking out the Lakes Podiatry Handicap (1600m) on April 9th, the son of Mastercraftsman has finished second in each of the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1800m) and Rough Habit Plate since arriving in Queensland.
Chris Waller has included three in 2015 Grand Prix Stakes nominations, including last start winner Sadler’s Lake.
Finishing fourth in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) and second in the Gallipoli BM70 (1600m) upon resuming this time, the High Chaparral gelding displayed an impressive turn of foot to win the Rough Habit Plate by two lengths last time and appears likely to be partnered by leading hoop Blake Shinn again this weekend.
A 2015 Grand Prix Stakes final field of 16 and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
